Because we have received many reports about problems with the RAR-type of archived files, did i decide to make a sticky about how to open those files, i'm first going to repeat something that Kohmaru wrote in the thread you are supposed to read before posting, something which no one obviously does.
Kohmaru wrote:WinRar is a compression format (archiving) similiar to .zip, the main difference being that rar format allows you to have archives within archives (nested archives). To view .rar files all you need to do is download winRar (free) and extract as you would with winzip.
Winrar can also extrat .zip and .ace files.
You can dl winrar here:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm Alternately you can dl CDisplay which allows you to view archived files and images without extracting (.zip, .rar, .ace, .cbz)- I find this very handy- this program is also free.
http://www.geocities.com/davidayton/CDisplayThere is also a way to convert .rar files into usable Zip-files.
there is a program in windows wich is called CMD.exe which is kind of a commande central. If you start "run" and write cmd.exe there, then a black window where you can write things comes up, write:
rename originalname newname .... example:
rename C:Users98768PicturesMangaA-fCielexample.rar example.zip
That will change the filetype of the file from Rar to Zip..
If it's complicated, please say so, and i will use pictures in the next example..
Let me know if you have any questions.
For those with mac, i searched around a bit and found this program, maybe it works. I can't test it myself, because i have no pc which uses mac.:
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Compression-Tools/RAR-Expander.shtmlIf anyone still has problems, then contact me or Kohmaru via PM, and i shall see if i can get any more programs or something which can help out.
But since none has said anything about it after i last edited this post, then i think everything should go fine with that program.
